Most folks start with "What's the average price for cleaning a driveway?" We don't print one. Our price follows your driveway, not a rate card. Size and material count most. After that it comes down to the growth, any stains that need their own work, and how easy the drive is to reach. Around Brunswick most drives are poured concrete. Out on the islands, the newer subdivisions went with pavers a lot more. That difference alone changes the job.

What Actually Moves the Price of a Driveway or Concrete Cleaning

We can't give you an average, because we don't work off a rate card. Five things set the number. First is square footage. Then the material, whether that's concrete, pavers, brick or exposed aggregate. Then how much algae and mildew has built up. Fourth, any rust, oil or tire marks that need stain work on top of the wash. Last is access: gate codes, where the water comes from, and what we have to move. We come look at it first, then hand you a free written quote. There is no charge for the visit, and it is one number for the whole job.

A concrete pad in full sun that gets cleaned on a regular schedule and a paver drive under a live oak canopy that has gone years without a wash are two different afternoons of work. Charge both the same and one of those customers ends up paying for the other guy's driveway.

The number holds once we start. If we hit something we couldn't see on the walk-through, we stop and ask you before we do anything about it.

Concrete, Pavers, Brick or Exposed Aggregate: Different Surface, Different Job

What's under your car picks the method. The method decides how long we're there.

Poured concrete is the workhorse of Brunswick driveways and it takes real pressure. We run a rotary surface cleaner across the field so the clean comes out even edge to edge. We only pick up the wand for edges, expansion joints and the odd spot stain. So you won't see wand stripes on a finished slab. Do a whole drive with a hand wand and you always get them.

Pavers get lower pressure than concrete, and the reason is the joint sand. Algae lives down in those joints. The same pressure that cleans a concrete slab evenly will blow the sand right out of a paver joint. If your joints have already lost their sand, we will tell you. It is a simple fix and it stops the pavers from shifting over time.

Exposed aggregate gets surface cleaner and detergent only. A wand held close pops the stones loose, and a stone that comes out does not go back.

Brick we handle more like siding than concrete. Solution goes on first, and the rinse is gentle. It's softer than it looks. Old brick is even softer. Pressure pits the face and blows out lime mortar. Old Town's older brick, with its lime mortar joints, never sees high pressure.

Oak Canopy and Algae: Why Some Driveways Need More Time Than Others

Two matching concrete drives on the same street can get two different prices, and the live oaks are usually why.

Tannin from oak leaves will stain concrete dark in one season under the canopy. The shade also means the slab never dries out all the way. Growth follows the damp. Brunswick's old grid sits under some of the heaviest canopy in the county. Lover's Oak on Albany Street is the poster child, and the streets around Howard Coffin Park have the same cover. A driveway under that shade is holding tannin stain and algae at once, and it takes more dwell time and more passes than the same slab in an open yard.

We pre-treat concrete with a cleaning solution before the surface cleaner goes down. That kills the algae at the root instead of shearing the top off with water. This is why a pre-treated clean holds longer than a water-only spray. That does not mean it is done for good, though. Humidity here sits above 70 percent most of the year, and winters are too mild to knock algae back the way a hard freeze does farther north. Growth comes back. The EPA's guide to mold and moisture makes the same point from the other side: take away the moisture and the growth has nothing to live on. Outdoors, here, nobody gets to take it away.

As a general schedule for this area:

  • Once a year for most driveways.
  • Under live oaks, or on the shady side of the house, figure every eight or nine months.
  • Full sun with no tree cover stretches it to one to two years.

Those are baselines, not a reading of your property. What your driveway actually needs comes out of the look.

Rust, Oil and Tire Marks: Stain Work Beyond the Standard Wash

Washing a drive and pulling stains out of it are separate work, so they show up separately on the quote.

Orange rust from well-water irrigation is all over coastal Georgia. Pressure does nothing to it. Run a surface cleaner over a rust bloom all afternoon and it will still be there. Rust needs a rust remover made for concrete, applied by hand, worked in, and rinsed. Very old rust may fade rather than vanish, and we would rather tell you that before you spend anything than let you find out once the concrete dries.

Oil and tire marks are stain work too. A wash plus degreaser lightens them. If a stain has been soaking into the slab for years, though, you may still see a ghost of it. Concrete is porous, and it hangs on to that kind of stain. When we walk the driveway, we will point out what is coming out and what is likely to fade rather than disappear.

Access, HOA Approval and Time Since the Last Clean

The things that are not the slab itself still move the time on site.

Access matters most here. We need the gate code, a water source close enough to the drive, and room to run the surface cleaner, which can mean moving cars, planters or furniture first. On a marsh-front lot we start at the house and work outward. That way the rinse water goes into the yard and not toward the creek.

Some HOAs and gated communities want written approval, or for us to set up access ahead of time. We handle that part. Windward Acres, off US 341 between Hidden Lakes and Helmich, is the kind of street where a driveway is on show to every neighbor walking past the community pool. Curb appeal there is a shared thing, and the neighborhoods that care about it most are usually the ones with a process to go through first.

The last factor is simply how long it has been. If the drive gets cleaned on a schedule, it goes quick. Skip a few years and the growth and tannin set in deeper. That takes more dwell time and more passes, so we're there longer.

Getting an Accurate Quote Without Guessing

Getting a real number shouldn't cost you a day off.

Many Sterling and Brunswick customers just text a couple of photos from the yard along with a rough size, and we will give a realistic range off that. For the firm number, we come out and walk the property. The visit's free and so is the written quote. We can often come by in the evening or on a weekend.

You get one number for the whole job. It stays put once we start, unless something hidden turns up, and even then you say yes first. That holds because the person who quotes the job is the person on the job. Devon Swanson and Levi Greene own Atlantic Coastal Cleaning and work every job themselves. We don't sub anything out. No crew shows up later and re-prices what some estimator wrote down.

For a driveway, walkway or other outside-only job you don't have to be home. Just leave the gates open and put the pets up. A two-car concrete driveway runs one to two hours. It is drivable as soon as it looks dry. Park on it wet and you will leave tire marks.

What a Driveway Quote Covers, and What's a Separate Job

A driveway and concrete quote covers concrete, pavers, brick and exposed aggregate. That means the drive and apron, plus the walkways and any flat concrete around the house.

House washing is its own service with its own page and method. So is roof cleaning, and so are patio, pool deck and lanai cleaning and deck and fence cleaning. We don't pressure wash any of those. Siding, roofs, screens, travertine, cool deck and wood get a soft wash. Pressure pushes water behind vinyl seams and chips a Hardie finish. On asphalt shingles it strips the granules, and on wood it lifts the paint. Several services can go on the same visit, and bundling normally costs less than separate trips, but each one is still quoted and performed as its own job.

Paver sealing is not something we offer. We clean pavers. We do not seal them.

For the full method behind this work, see the driveway cleaning process. Concrete gets its own page too, at concrete cleaning. Other hard surfaces around the property are covered under pressure washing in Brunswick.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the average price for cleaning a driveway?

We don't quote an average. The number comes from your driveway, not a rate card. Size and material change it (concrete, pavers, brick or exposed aggregate). So does how thick the algae is, whether rust or oil need their own stain work, and how close the water is. We walk the drive, then give you one free written quote for all of it. The visit costs nothing.

How much does it cost to clean pavers?

Pavers don't have a set price either. Square footage moves it, and so does how much joint sand you've still got. We clean pavers at lower pressure than concrete so the joint sand stays put, and that sand is where algae starts. Missing joint sand adds to the job, and it's easy to point out during the same visit. A photo and a rough size get a free written quote back fast.

How much do people charge to clean concrete?

There's no flat rate to quote, and we won't guess at what another company charges. What moves a concrete price here is the same as any driveway: a rotary surface cleaner runs the field for an even clean, the slab gets pre-treated so algae is killed at the root, and total time on site depends on square footage and how heavy the growth has gotten.

Is it a good idea to pressure wash pavers?

Yes, as long as it's done at lower pressure than a plain concrete slab gets. The sand packed in the joints keeps pavers locked in and level. It's also what the algae grows in. Too much pressure blows the sand out along with the growth. Cleaned at the right pressure, pavers come back even without opening up the joints underneath them.

Does power washing get rid of weeds between pavers?

It knocks loose the weeds that are already growing, but it doesn't stop them from coming back. Weeds take hold fastest where joint sand has already washed or worn away, which is one more reason we point out missing sand during a driveway visit. Replacing that sand is a simple fix, and it's the thing that actually slows weeds down over time, not the wash itself.

How often should a driveway be pressure washed?

For most driveways in Brunswick, once a year does it. Under live oaks or on the shady side of a house, plan on every eight or nine months. Shade keeps the slab damp longer, so the growth comes back sooner. Full sun with no tree cover can stretch a driveway to one or two years between cleanings.
